Friday, October 14th 2006

Dear Zachary,

Today being Friday means that it’s the beginning of the weekend, which means you get to spend a few days with me. I love Fridays, not only because it’s the end of the week and there’s no more work for a few days, but because I get to pick you up and spend some time with you!

Your uncle Ben came to town with his new girlfriend Rachel and I was excited to meet her and spend time with my brother again since I never see him anymore. Your mom was kind enough to drop you off at my house around 7:30 or so. You had apparently just woken up and were still kind of groggy. She set you down and you immediately walked into your room and started playing with your toys. Your mom was holding a big dinosaur toy and was trying to get you to show me how it worked but you didn’t seem to interested. We set your dinosaur down in the room and your mom showed me what it did, which was pretty neat. You didn’t seem to care though and continued on with your box full of toys. Of course you dug for the helicopter and airplane set you have and carry with you everywhere. The ones where you pull the string and they take off flying. You love those so much, which is awesome because I had the same toys when I was a kid. Your mom left and I took you into the family room where everyone was watching family videos from 1990 or so. You hid against the wall and slowly peeked over a bit to see everyone in the room. For a while you just stood by me and didn’t say or do much. You were shy around Ben and his new girlfriend but after a few minutes you started warming up to everyone and acted normal. We tried to get you to eat some food and you ate some canned peaches and a little bit of rice we had for dinner earlier. You of course wanted some candy that you could see sitting on the counter. I let you have a few pieces of starburst.

You played with Keisha and Riley for a while and had a blast. You always love chasing those dogs around and getting them all wound up. I kept asking you if you needed to goto the bathroom which of course you kept saying no, but later on you came up to me and said you had “pee’d self”. And yes, you had. I changed you and got you into some pajamas and had you go brush your teeth. You kept carrying out this flashlight pen that Grandma Lori always gives you which you love. We ran downstairs and jumped around on the bean bag chair for a while, but then you wanted to go and lay down with your blanket. You asked me to put in the movie “Toy Story” which I did as you were laying down and getting yourself comfortable. And by the time I had pushed play, you had rolled over and fallen asleep. You must have been really tired. I took off your jacket you were wearing and carried you to your bed and gave you your blanket, making sure the heater was on you and set to keep you warm through the cold night. I then put myself to sleep.. after writing this of course! Goodnight buddy, Hopefully you have amazing dreams about the most wonderful things in the world. I love you!

-Daddy
